I had hoped to work this summer in a W-2 job. I don’t do well with a lot of unstructured time, so a part-time retail job would have ticked a lot of boxes: structure to my days, meet people outside of my education bubble, a little bit of money (because believe me, eBay ain’t hittin’ the spot this summer), and earn me a social security credit.

But even though I had a great interview with one of my favorite large retail chains, the amount of time I have at home, though significant to me, wasn’t worth them investing in my training. Which I get and totally understand. Still disappointing, though. And nothing else has come through. Some of the local data centers are hiring through a temp agency, but again, I think the amount of time I am here doesn’t make it worth it to them. And they’re temp to permanent jobs, so a temp temp is, again, probably not someone they want to invest in.

So I am consigning and eBaying stuff. Neither of which will get me a social security credit, but will offset a tiny bit of my US spending <face palm>. It hasn’t been great. Almost all justifiable, but still not great. And the eBay results also have not been great. It is just not a set of skills I have highly developed and so when I pop up on there once a year or so, I get screwed on postage, or am just sad that a Koskela print went for way less than I hoped. Whatever, at least the print generally goes to someone who would really appreciate it.

I am getting time at the pool and in front of the sewing machine. I’m visiting with my sister and her family, seeing friends, so there are definite good things. The football/soccer has been great. Here’s to the Swiss Nati beating Argentina tonight! I believe in them. They can do it! I am going to a wedding in August in Ohio and preparing for my niece’s wedding in September. I’ve sorted out my celebrant license for that and am stupid excited. I just wish I had a job for 20-25 hours per week…
