For a variety of reasons, I get one coffee a day. Rarely, I’ll have a coffee-fueled day, but generally, it is one beautiful, delicious, perfect coffee each morning. And so, I look at my coffee as an all round delight to start my day.

On a work day, I’ll use my 3 shot Alessi that a friend gifted me years ago to make my coffee. I’m sure that a purist would be sad or offended by my coffee. I don’t fresh grind my beans. I generally grind beans once a week or every ten days and store them in an airtight container on the counter. I do preheat the water in the kettle. I have a milk frother/steamer, so I put whole milk in that.

I pack my coffee to have at work, so the coffee and milk go in a thermos of some type. Finding ones that don’t leak has been its own adventure. Even when I take the bus (or two or three), my coffee is still hot when I get there. I pour half the thermos into a mug and then when I’ve finished that, I have the rest. It’s generally still steaming.

For my coffee, I prefer a medium roast or even a light roast. I will have coffee out with friends, but that is a social moment, not a coffee moment and in general, I prefer my own coffee made at home. I also have a six shot moka pot for when I have a friend come for coffee. I like that the grounds are compostable and it’s not wasteful, like if I use the filter machine and it’s a lot easier to clean than the French press.

I’m moving into the cold coffee season, so I need to get my ice cube game back on point. Fridge coffee can be really strong and an ice cube or two can make it more of a treat (especially when I throw some cream into the milk).

How do you enjoy your coffee? Does it change according to the seasons?
